CHED-NIR Receives Over 1,000 Applications for Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship

The Commission on Higher Education in Negros Island Region (CHED-NIR) has already received more than 1,000 applications for the Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program (BPMSP) from senior high school graduates with high honors.

CHED-NIR Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship 2026

The Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program (BPMSP) is a merit-based scholarship open to this year’s senior high school graduates who ranked among the top five of their class or posted high academic standing. The program is aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas agenda.

According to CHED-NIR Regional Director Raul Alvarez, the region has received 1,114 validated online applications so far. Of these, 196 have already qualified, 54 did not meet the requirements, and the rest are still under review.

“These are the best of the crop for this year’s graduates from senior high school,” Alvarez said.

What are the qualifications?

Before applying, make sure you meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be an incoming first-year college student who is a senior high school graduate this year;
  • Must have ranked among the top five of the graduating class or have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 95% in Grade 12; and
  • Combined annual family income must not exceed ₱2 million.

What are the priority programs?

Applicants must enroll in any of the following priority degree programs:

  • Agriculture and Fisheries;
  • Creative Industries;
  • Healthcare and Allied Programs;
  • Engineering and Technology;
  • Financial Services;
  • Teacher Education;
  • Digital Technology; and
  • Science and Mathematics.

Note: In the Negros Island Region, the Regional Development Council (RDC) has approved 11 priority programs such as education, engineering, social services, and agriculture, which are needed in the locality and have employment priority.

Applicants may enroll at any accredited higher education institution offering priority degree programs.

What are the benefits of the scholarship?

Scholars under the BPMSP will receive the following benefits:

  • Full tuition and other school fees at eligible SUCs, LUCs, or private higher education institutions; and
  • Yearly living allowance.

Application Period

Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program (BPMSP) is currently accepting online applications from qualified senior high school graduates nationwide.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible through the official BPMSP portal at bpms.ched.gov.ph.
