GSIS STEM Scholarship 2026: Now accepting applications

Qualified children of active GSIS members may receive up to ₱15,000 per academic year, plus monetary incentives for Latin honors, through the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP), providing financial assistance to help cover the cost of pursuing a STEM degree.

The program is open to a maximum of 1,000 slots per year, allotted to eligible GSIS member-applicants and their qualified children, distributed proportionately per region based on the latest official GSIS membership coverage.

The GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program is administered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for Academic Year 2026-2027.

Applications are currently open from June 30 to August 31, 2026.

If you are a GSIS member with a child preparing to take up a STEM course in college, here is what you need to know about the GSSP, including the benefits, qualifications, requirements, slot allocation, and how to apply.

What is the GSIS STEM Scholarship?

The GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP) provides a subsidy to the qualified children of eligible GSIS members who will pursue a STEM Bachelor’s degree course. GSIS shall allot a maximum of 1,000 slots for the GSSP every year, starting AY 2026-2027 to AY 2029-2030, until the completion of the grantee’s course – AY 2032-2033 for four-year courses, and AY 2033-2034 for five-year courses.

The 1,000 slots are distributed proportionately per region, per year, based on the latest official GSIS membership coverage. At least twenty percent (20%) of the allotted slots per region, per year, shall be allocated for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Indigenous Peoples (IPs), and Solo Parents (SPs).

Slots are awarded to eligible member-applicants with the lowest annual basic salary (ABS) or pension who are assigned in that particular region, along with their qualified children.

Who can apply for the GSIS Scholarship?

According to GSIS’s published eligibility requirements, a member-applicant must meet the following conditions:

1. Must be a regular, active GSIS member with permanent employment status, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Indigenous Peoples (IPs), and Solo Parents (SPs), provided that:
   • They are at Salary Grade 15 and below, or its equivalent job grade;
   • During the application period, the member-applicant must have updated premium payments; and
   • A member-applicant can only apply for one (1) child for the duration of the program.
2. A Permanent Total Disability (PTD) pensioner who is below sixty (60) years of age within the application period may apply their child for GSSP, with their basic monthly pension used as the basis for the selection process.

What are the Qualifications

The child nominated by the member-applicant must meet the following qualifications:

1. Must be an incoming first-time college freshman accepted into any four- or five-year GSIS-identified STEM Bachelor’s Degree course, at any CHED-registered Autonomous and Deregulated Private Higher Educational Institution (PHEI), Chartered University, State University or College (SUC) under Level III and IV Classification, Local College or University (LCU), Center of Excellence (COE), or Center of Development (COD).
2. Must have a GWA of at least ninety percent (90%), with no failing grade in Senior High School (SHS).

What are the GSIS Scholarship Benefits

GSSP Grantees receive a subsidy of ₱15,000 per Academic Year, regardless of the number of terms in their course as indicated in the GSSP Agreement.

Release schedules vary by term:

Semester System

• ₱7,500.00 (July-November / August-December)
• ₱7,500.00 (December-April / January-May)

Trimester System

• ₱5,000.00 (July-October)
• ₱5,000.00 (November-February)
• ₱5,000.00 (March-June)

Quarter System

• ₱3,750.00 (August-October)
• ₱3,750.00 (November-January)
• ₱3,750.00 (February-April)
• ₱3,750.00 (May-July)

Benefits are only released to grantees upon submission of their current college/university grades, showing a GWA of at least 85%, as stated in the PPG. Grantees may enroll in midterm/midyear (summer) classes, but no additional benefit is provided for these terms.

Latin Honors Incentives – GSSP grantees who graduate with Latin honors receive the following monetary incentives, upon submission of a certification of Latin honors from their college/university:

What are the GSIS STEM Scholarship Requirements

Eligible GSIS members may secure an application form from any GSIS office or download it from the official GSIS website. The duly accomplished form must be submitted on or before the deadline to the nearest GSIS office, together with the following:

1. Original or certified true copy of the PSA-issued birth certificate of the nominated child
2. Original or certified true copy of the Certificate of Employment or Service Record of the member, or disability claim approval for PTD pensioners
3. Certification from the college/university that the child is accepted or enrolled during the current AY, stating the course, duration of the course, and year level of the student
4. Original or certified true copy of the SHS Report Card, with at least 90% GWA and no failing grade in Senior High School
5. For PWD, IP, and SP applicants and/or PWD children: an endorsement from the head of agency/office or their designated official attesting to the applicant’s sector, plus government-issued authentication – a valid PWD ID from the City/Municipal Persons with Disability Affairs Office or National Council on Disability Affairs, a Certificate of Confirmation of Tribal Membership from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, or a valid SP ID from the Local Social Welfare Development Office.

How to Apply for the GSIS STEM Scholarship

1. Secure the application form from any GSIS office or download it from the official GSIS website.
2. Accomplish the form completely, printing all entries in capital letters and checking the appropriate boxes.
3. Prepare all required documentary requirements listed above.
4. Submit the complete application to the nearest GSIS office for processing on or before the deadline.

Duration and Non-Transferability of the GSSP Grant

The GSSP grant remains in force for the duration of the grantee’s chosen four- or five-year course, unless earlier terminated due to the grantee’s failure to comply with the GSSP Terms and Conditions and/or the college/university’s retention policy.

Important: The GSSP grant is non-transferable.
